The All Natural Hangover Helper

Holiday or no holiday, special occasion or not – sometimes we indulge a little more than our body can handle. When this happens we typically grab for a sports drink to hydrate and restore electrolytes. But there’s an even better, quicker and all natural way to help that hangover. Coconut water!!

Coconut water is the best natural source of Electrolytes and Potassium – the very thing that a night of drinking will temporarily deplete your body of. Unlike sports drinks coconut water has no high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors or artificial colors.  At least it shouldn’t. Check labels – some companies trying to capitalize on the coconut craze have added all kinds of crap, including high fructose corn syrup!

Lets compare a serving of coconut water to a serving of your typical sports drink:

Coconut Water

  • Potassium 670 mg
  • Magnesium 25 mg
  • Calcium 40 mg
  • Protein 1 mg
  • Phosphorus 17 mg
  • Vitamin C 10% of Daily Value
  • Sodium 60 mg
  • Sugar 14 mg
  • Calories 60

Sports Drink

  • Potassium 40 mg
  • Magnesium 7 mg
  • Calcium None
  • Protein None
  • Phosphorus None
  • Vitamin C None
  • Sodium 76 mg
  • Sugar 21 mg
  • Calories 96

Next time you are out celebrating, make sure your fridge is stocked with coconut water.  You can typically find coconut water on the shelves at your local health food store or at your local farmers market. If you are really brave buy young fresh coconuts and drink straight from the source! To Prevent a hangover drink plenty before bed. Then first thing in the morning drink a big glass to hydrate and take the edge off.

Here’s to loving life and having a natural solution when we love it too much!

  1. I am such a huge fan of coconuts and coconut water. I recently introduced a friend of mine to fresh coconut water and she was thrilled! Especially in this summer heat, because there’s nothing like coconut water to take away the thirst. ;)

I do appreciate the comparison against a sports drink…they are not so good for you are they!!

We like to call our coconut juice/water [www.amyandbriannaturals.com} Natures Gatorade!

Ohh yes… if you do over indulge it helps with that also.
