Who doesn’t love the classic strawberry and banana smoothie? It’s simple to make, naturally sweet and so darn pretty too. Problem is, like most fruit smoothies, unless there is some protein added, it’s not a balanced snack or treat and can lead to a crash in blood sugar and leave you feeling hungry and unsatisfied.
Simple solution. Add some protein!
- 5-6 ripe strawberries
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup whole milk
For extra protein add…
- 1 whole raw egg – make sure it’s organic and fresh, OR
- substitue the milk for a hearty scoop of greek yogurt and add a little extra water, OR
- 2 Tbs gelatin powder
Blend and poor over ice, or add some ice cubes to the blender. Now, I know people are going to ask… “why gelatin?” Gelatin is a great source of protein. It’s anti-inflammatory and full of amino acids that our ancestors would easily get from cooking meat on the bone or drinking bone broth. I personally use Joint Care from Gelatin Innovations.
